I noticed today as I was looking at a World Racers blog on the popular Facebook application Blog Networks that the user was awaiting verification of blog ownership by 10 friends.  I thought this was odd since it would be very easy to add the html widget provided for instant ownership verification.

 

So I decided to write a quick post to explain the process of adding an AIM blog and verifying ownership instantly.

 

Step 1: On the Blog Networks Main Page Choose Add a New Blog

 

 Step 2: This page asks you to fill in all the information like name, url, keywords, etc about your blog. Fill all this information in and select Next

 

 Step 3: This page look exactly like the previous page, however since the Adventures blogging software does not include a Meta Tag for site feed, the Blog Networks app asks you to provide that address. Type your blog address into the RSS/Atom URL line and append /rss/ at the end. Select Next

 

 Step 4: This page ask you to proceed forward as the owner of this newly added blog. Select YES.

 

 Step 5: Although this page claims the Edit HTML verification method requires some technical skills, it is actually quite simple to copy these steps.  So select the 'Edit HTML on your blog' link.

 

 Step 6: As the page instructs you should copy the code out of the box in step one.  To do this click inside the box and copy your text to your clipboard. That is ctrl-c on a Windows computers, or cmd-c on a Mac.

 

 Step 7: Next on the Blog List page of your AIM/WORLD RACE Dashboard choose the Edit button on the My Links line.

 

 Step 8: At the bottom of the blog box where you are already familiar with typing in your posts, click the button that says HTML.

 

 Step 9: If you are not used to HTML what appears to be a lot of jibberish will appear in your previously nicely formatted box.  Scroll to the bottom of that jibberish, leaving it all intact and after your links you should paste the code you copied from the Blog Networks box in Step 7.  This is ctrl-v on a Windows machine and cmd-v on a Mac machine.  After pasting the text you should select save before leaving the page.  If you want you can view your blog at this time to see your newly added Blog Networks widget.  

 

 Step 10: Returning to your Blog Networks page, you can now choose the "Verify Widget' button.

 

 Step 11: If you have completed all these steps correctly, then a confirmation box with 'verification successful' will appear.  Choose next to finalize the process.

 

 Step 12: SUCCESS!  When the site returns you to the blog information page, you will notice that author has been set to you, and your profile pic has been added the authors box on the right.  Congrats!
